Perhaps you are building your dream home.
Perhaps your roof was damaged by a storm.
Maybe this is your first home; maybe it’s your
fifth. Either way, putting a new roof on is a big undertaking.
You need to know where to
start, and finding a professional roofing contractor does require some work on your behalf.
However, we here at HP Roofing you will find reliable roofing
professionals with decades of experience and a long list of satisfied customers. We are Roofers, not a jack of all trades.
Here are some key points to look for:
These are many decisions you will want to consider in the process of replacing your roof.
First determine what type of roof best fits your needs, asphalt shingle, metal standing
seam or low-sloped rubber membrane.
Then choose a color that would best match your house and neighborhood, yet be flexible for a color change in the future.
Here at HP Roofing we use products only from certified roofing manufacturers, such as
CertainTeed and Duro-Last,
and Dexmet Standing Seem Metal roofing in a variety of colors
and styles. We’d be glad to show you our
wide selection of roofing samples.
Ask what is offered for a warranties for your new roof?
Typically, there are two kinds of warranties - one from the
manufacturer for their product, and one from the contractor for
their workmanship.
Be sure you understand clearly the difference and what you will get for your warranties.
HP Roofing provides written warranties at the end of all
major roofing jobs. See our warranty.(PDF)
If you have any questions regarding the warranties that would apply to your job, please feel free to ask.
You can go to Google or Facebook and maybe you will find a roofer
that will meet your needs at a low price.
However, good
questions to ask would be:
How long has this contractor been in
business?
Will he still be in business in 2 or 3 years should you need him?
Is he a member of professional associations or a free lancer in a truck.
Is he local?
HP Roofing is a locally owned and operated business, with
its offices located at 240 South Main Street in White River
Junction, Vermont. Its beginnings date back to 1982. We are
members of the Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of
Commerce and several other professional organizations. Read more about us here.
Be sure to ask for references from any potential contractor. This
is a good way to establish their credibility.
Asking for references regarding the quality of the work, and most
importantly, the quality of the overall experience, from start to
cleanup. Make sure that the references you receive are from
recent jobs and you can verify with a phone call or text. If possible, ask to visit a job in progress.
HP Roofing
is happy to provide references upon request.
Given the potential scope of a roofing project, it is best to get as
much information as possible from each contractor you interview.
For a small project, such as a leaky skylight, you will most likely
receive a onetime cost estimate for repairs. For a major repair or
replacement job, you should receive a written proposal that
outlines several different roofing options.
HP Roofing provides both estimates and proposals in writing
so you can clearly see the economical and long lasting roofing
solutions to meet your needs. To request a quote click to fillout out our simple contact form.
Some states require licenses for contractors. While the states of
Vermont and New Hampshire do not require licenses, HP Roofing
is fully licensed, and copies are available upon request.
Also,
Jeff and his team leaders take continuing education courses from product
manufacturers to maintain their knowledge of the latest roofing
materials and technologies.
Weighing all of these factors, in addition
to price, when selecting a contractor,
will help to ensure that you receive
maximum value for your home
improvement dollars.
Be sure to ask the contractor if he carries both worker’s
compensation and general liability insurance. Also, ask to see a
copy of his certificate of insurance from his insurance carrier,
and be sure both the liability and worker’s compensation
insurance are listed.
Here’s the reason: If you, as the homeowner,
hire a contractor that does not carry worker’s compensation insurance, you could be held responsible for any injuries sustained
by them or anyone who comes on your property.
Here at HP Roofing we carry both general
liability and worker’s compensation insurance on all employees.
A certificate of insurance is available upon request.
